Experience

Karisma Tabassum is an economist and academic with extensive experience in economics education, teaching, curriculum development, and applied economic studies. She holds a Master’s in Economics from the Department of Economics at North South University, Dhaka, and a Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) in Economics from East West University, Dhaka. Her academic background, combined with more than a decade of university teaching experience, enables her to contribute effectively to economics education and student development.

Academic Experience

Karisma Tabassum has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Bangladesh University since 31 July 2024. Prior to her current position, she served as a Senior Lecturer from 16 August 2018 to 30 July 2024 and as a Lecturer from 29 July 2013 to 15 August 2018 in the same department.

Her teaching experience covers a diverse range of economics courses, including Economic Development, Health Economics, Labor Economics, Economics of Environment, Economy of Bangladesh, Principles of Microeconomics, and Principles of Macroeconomics. Through her teaching and academic engagement, she contributes to developing students’ analytical abilities and understanding of economic theories and their practical applications.

Professional Practice

Karisma Tabassum has engaged in a range of applied economic studies and project-based academic assessments addressing contemporary socio-economic and environmental issues. Her project work has included studies on the income of disabled and able-bodied beggars in Dhaka City, the feasibility of renewable solar energy in Bangladesh, the socio-economic and cultural status of university officers, house rent in Dhaka City, and the lives and livelihoods of nurses in Dhaka City.

These academic projects reflect her interest in applying economic concepts and analytical approaches to real-world issues, particularly those related to urban economics, livelihoods, renewable energy, social welfare, and socio-economic development.

Professional Development

She has completed professional training in Teaching Methods and Techniques (2013) and Curriculum Format (2017) at Bangladesh University, Dhaka. These professional development activities have strengthened her capabilities in effective teaching, academic planning, and curriculum-related practices.
