Muzaiana Naomi Khan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University. She holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, and a Bachelor of Architecture from BRAC University. Her academic and professional experience encompasses architectural education, urban design, academic coordination, thesis supervision, institutional quality assurance, and professional architectural practice.

Academic Experience

Muzaiana Naomi Khan has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University since December 2025. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at Stamford University Bangladesh from February 2024 to November 2025, following her tenure as Senior Lecturer from November 2018 to February 2024 and Lecturer from May 2016 to November 2018. She also served as a Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University from April to June 2013. Earlier in her career, she worked as an A’Level and O’Level Assistant Teacher at Summation School of Science from June 2004 to April 2007.

Her academic responsibilities have included thesis supervision, examination coordination, program coordination, tuition fee monitoring, and administrative coordination within the Department of Architecture at Stamford University Bangladesh. She served as Program Coordinator of the Re-View lecture series from November 2017 and contributed to institutional self-assessment activities through a comprehensive Data Sharing and Self-Assessment Program. As part of this initiative, she conducted a survey involving 284 stakeholders, including graduating students, alumni, faculty members, non-academic staff, and employers. The collected data was subsequently analyzed and presented in a report based on the survey findings.

Professional Practice

Alongside her academic career, Muzaiana Naomi Khan has developed professional experience in architectural practice. She worked as an Associate Architect at Tanya Karim NR Khan and Associates from June 2012 to May 2013 and completed an architectural internship at Marina Tabassum Architects from May to September 2011. Her professional experience has provided a practical foundation for her teaching and academic engagement in architecture and urban design.

Her professional and academic experience also includes collaborative field-based work in community development, housing, and urban mobility. As a student of architecture, she worked with a low-income community in Dakshin Rishipotti, south of Bhairab, to explore an innovative approach to low-income housing design responsive to climate change under the guidance of university professors. She also collaborated with students from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, and the Centre for Built Environment (CBE), Kolkata, on a survey and report examining the choices and routes of different forms of public transportation used by university students in Kolkata from March to October 2014.

Professional Development

Muzaiana Naomi Khan has undertaken extensive professional development in architectural education, urban design, higher education quality assurance, curriculum development, and sustainable urbanism. Her training includes the two-day workshop on Managing Change for Enhancing Quality in Higher Education, organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Stamford University Bangladesh, in April 2018; Data Sharing on Self-Assessment Report (Draft) in July 2017; and Outcome Based Curriculum Design programs organized by the Self-Assessment Committee and IQAC of Stamford University Bangladesh in February and May 2017. She also participated in a six-day Faculty Training Program organized by IQAC in November–December 2016, involving lectures, audio-visual demonstrations, group discussions, and assignment presentations.

Her professional development in urban design and development includes the International Workshop on Project Management for Urban Design and Development Professionals, organized by the Department of Architecture, Stamford University Bangladesh, and World Learning Inc. in association with the Global Centre for Innovation and Learning, Washington, DC, USA, in May 2018. She also participated in the workshop Sustainable Urban Waterscape – Issues, Challenges and Prospects, organized by the Department of Architecture, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, in February 2014, which included paper presentation and group discussions.

She has participated in numerous national and international seminars, forums, and academic events related to architecture, architectural education, urban development, and contemporary design discourse. These include ARCASIA Forum 20, organized by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) and ARCASIA at BICC, Dhaka, in November 2019; the one-day symposium on Challenges of Teaching Architectural History, organized by IAB in July 2018; and the Spanish Architecture Lecture Series by Hector Fernandez, organized by the Department of Architecture, BRAC University, at the IAB Centre in October 2017.

Her academic engagement also includes participation in Two Talks and a Conversation: Doshi/Pallasmaa, featuring Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa and Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi, organized by Bengal Institute at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Auditorium in November 2016. She attended the seminar on Urban Mobility in Public Transport, organized by the Centre for Built Environment, Kolkata, and Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, in August 2014, as well as the 2nd International Convention of SPIC MACAY at IIT Madras, Chennai, in June 2014.

She further participated in the four-day international symposium Cities under Restoration, organized by the Centre for Built Environment at the ICCR Complex, Kolkata, in November 2013, and the two-day international symposium Sound Square: A New Age Urban Space, organized by ICC, KMOMA, and CREDAI Bengal at Taj Gateway Hotel, Kolkata, in February 2013. These academic and professional engagements have contributed to her continuing development in architecture, urban design, mobility, and the relationship between built environments and society.

Muzaiana Naomi Khan is a member of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) and has served as a member of the IAB Printing and Publication Committee under its 23rd Executive Council. Her professional and institutional engagement also includes participation in academic committees at Stamford University Bangladesh, including examination coordination, program coordination, tuition fee monitoring, and administrative coordination. Through these activities, she has contributed to professional, academic, and institutional initiatives within the field of architecture.
