Ar. Khandoker Tariqul Islam is an Assistant Professor and Design Coordinator in the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University. He holds a Master of Architecture (M.Arch) and a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He combines academic teaching, architectural practice, design coordination, and professional development in architecture and the built environment.
Academic Experience
Ar. Khandoker Tariqul Islam has extensive academic experience in architectural education at Bangladesh University. He served as Head of the Department of Architecture from 2024 to 2025, following his tenure as Senior Lecturer from 2014 to 2018 and Lecturer from 2011 to 2014. He has also contributed to engineering education as a Part-Time Faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, in 2025.
Professional Practice
Alongside his academic career, Ar. Khandoker Tariqul Islam has maintained substantial professional experience in architectural practice. He has been serving as Principal Architect at 23/90 ARCHITECTS in Mirpur, Dhaka, since 2011, with involvement in architectural design and professional practice. Earlier, he worked as an Architect at URBANA, Dhanmondi, from 2010 to 2011, following his role as a Part-Time Architect at URBANA from 2007 to 2010. He also worked as a Part-Time Architect at 37 Bridge, Dar-us-salam, Kallyanpur, Dhaka, from 2008 to 2010.
His professional practice is supported by proficiency in a wide range of architectural design, visualization, environmental analysis, graphics, and multimedia software, including ENVI-met, Ecotect Analysis, 3ds Max, Lumion, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Poser, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Swish Max, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Fireworks, Moho, Sound Forge, and Adobe Premiere.
Professional Development
Ar. Khandoker Tariqul Islam has participated in a range of professional courses and workshops covering sustainable architecture, landscape urbanism, architectural education, design studio pedagogy, construction documentation, environmental safety, and building regulations. His professional development includes the workshop on Designing Zero Net Emissions Buildings (ZNEm) using the 2030 Palette, held in July 2016 in Los Angeles, USA, and the Landscape Urbanism workshop under SEARCH WORKSHOP 16 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in December 2016.
His academic teaching development includes a three-day workshop on Teaching Architecture at Bangladesh University in August 2019 and a two-day workshop on Teaching Methods and Techniques of Design Studio for Architecture at the undergraduate level at Bangladesh University in July 2017. He also completed Fundamentals for Tertiary Education (Teachers Training Basics) through the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) in April 2024.
His additional professional training includes a hands-on workshop on Emergency Earth/Sandbag Shelter in March 2014, jointly organized by New Earth UK, the Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI), the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), and the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB); training on Health and Environmental Safety in May 2013; a course on Preparing Construction Documents in June 2016; and training on Dhaka Mohanagar Imarat Nirman Bidhimala 2008 in May 2015, conducted through the Institute of Architects Bangladesh.
