Assistant Professor & Head
Ar. Sheikh Itmam Soud is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University. He holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Planning, Management & Sustainable Development from the University of Dhaka and a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) from Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology (AUST). His career combines architectural education, academic administration, professional architectural practice, design management, supervision, and participation in national and international architectural initiatives.
Academic Experience
Ar. Sheikh Itmam Soud has been serving as Head of the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University since 1 January 2025 and as an Assistant Professor in the department since 20 January 2024. Prior to joining Bangladesh University, he served as an Assistant Professor at Stamford University Bangladesh from March 2018 to December 2023, where he also served as Assistant Proctor from January 2019 to December 2023. Earlier, he served as a Senior Lecturer from November 2014 to March 2018, a full-time Lecturer from April 2012 to October 2014, and a part-time Lecturer from January to April 2012 at Stamford University Bangladesh.
His academic and administrative experience reflects extensive involvement in architectural education, departmental management, student affairs, academic administration, and studio-based teaching. His role as Assistant Proctor further contributed to his experience in supporting university administration and student-related activities.
Professional Practice
Ar. Sheikh Itmam Soud has substantial professional experience in architectural design, project management, supervision, and working drawing preparation. He served as a Senior Architect at VENNA ARCHITECTS from 2024 to 2025, with responsibilities in design, management, and top supervision. From 2016 to 2022, he worked as an Architect Partner at SPACE-TECHTURE, contributing to design, supervision, and project management. He also served as Managing Partner of PORISOR ARCHITECTS from 2012 to 2021, with responsibilities encompassing architectural design, supervision, and management.
Earlier in his professional career, he worked as an Architect at UNICONS from 2010 to 2012, where his responsibilities included preliminary design, working drawings, and supervision. His professional practice has provided him with broad practical experience in architectural design and project execution, complementing his academic and teaching career.
His professional achievements include winning the single-stage competition for the 13-storied IT Human Resource Development Hub (ITHRDH) at the University of Dhaka in March 2019. The winning submission was a joint venture of Space-Techture and TKNRK and was organized by the University of Dhaka.
Professional Development
Ar. Sheikh Itmam Soud has been recognized for his contributions to architectural education, student mentoring, publication, and design-related activities. In March 2025, he was recognized as an advisor for two award-winning entries in the competition project “XXVIII PLASTIC ESPACIAL ENCOUNTER 2025: ORIGIN”, organized by the Luis Barragán Workshop, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Facultad de Arquitectura. His students from the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University achieved Third Place and Second Mention in the competition.
In January 2020, he was recognized as one of the best studio teachers for the project “Housing – A Vertical Garden” by Arman Alam, a student of the Department of Architecture at Stamford University Bangladesh. The recognition was associated with the Best Undergraduate Thesis Award, Award Cycle 2018–2019, organized by KSRM in association with the Institute of Architects Bangladesh.
He was also recognized as Editor for the publication “Architectural Compendium: Competition on Affordable Housing for Lower Middle Income Group,” published in January 2020 and organized by Build Bangladesh. In the same period, he was recognized as the Layout and Design Designer for the publication “Architectural Practice Profiles 2019,” organized by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh.
Professional Affiliation
Ar. Sheikh Itmam Soud has maintained professional engagement with the architectural community through his involvement in architectural practices, professional publications, competitions, and activities associated with the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). His professional contributions include participation in architectural competitions and publication initiatives, as well as collaboration with architectural organizations and academic institutions.

3. IT Human Resource Development Hub (ITHRDH), a 15-storied academic building at University of Dhaka, Dhaka. JV with TKNRK. Competition winning entry. Completion: in progress.
4. Balad-il-Amin, a 3-storied single-family residence, Dhaka. Featured in different architectural magazines. Completion: 2016.
5. Tridhara, a 6-storied multi-family residence at Mirpur DOHS. Nominated for 8th Berger Award for Excellence in Architecture. Completion: 2016.
