Experience

Ar. Dr. Nurur Rahman Khan is a Professor in the Department of Architecture and Dean of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology at Bangladesh University. He holds a B.Arch and an M.Arch from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), and a PhD with Distinction from Università IUAV di Venezia, Venice, Italy. He has extensive academic experience in architecture and has contributed to architectural education through teaching, academic leadership, research, and professional engagement at national and international platforms.

Academic Experience

Ar. Dr. Nurur Rahman Khan has been serving as Dean of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology at Bangladesh University since 18 September 2024. He also serves as a Professor in the Department of Architecture, contributing to architectural education, academic leadership, and institutional development.

In addition to his role at Bangladesh University, he has served as Visiting Faculty at North South University and BRAC University. He has also contributed to higher education as an Adjunct Faculty member at Stamford University and as an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Asia Pacific. His diverse teaching experience reflects sustained engagement in architectural education across multiple academic institutions.

Professional Development

Ar. Dr. Nurur Rahman Khan has delivered lectures, presentations, and participated as an invited speaker and panelist at prominent academic and professional institutions and forums in Bangladesh and internationally. His presentations have focused particularly on the architectural philosophy and works of Louis I. Kahn, Bengali modernism, Mughal architecture, Sufism, architectural education, and his own architectural practice.

His international academic engagements include a presentation on Louis Kahn’s Assembly Building in the context of the Theatres of Decolonization and a lecture on Kahn’s philosophy of architecture at the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore. He has also presented at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), including a lecture on Kahn’s work in the Subcontinent and participation in the Years/s of Water/s (Water, Life and Design) conference. He delivered a lecture titled “Kahn in Context” on Louis Kahn’s work in Dhaka at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore, and presented a detailed analysis of Kahn’s Assembly Building in Dhaka at the School of Architecture, La Défense, Paris, France.

He has further presented on the works of Louis I. Kahn, Architect Muzharul Islam, and his own architectural practice at The Catholic University of America in Washington, USA. He delivered “The Foreigner”, a lecture on Kahn’s work in the Subcontinent, at Yale University, USA, and lectures on selected works of Louis I. Kahn and his own work at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD) and the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology University (CEPT), Ahmedabad, India. He has also participated in the IAB Lecture Series in the USA, where he lectured on selected works of Louis I. Kahn, and in Pakistan, where he delivered a lecture on Mughal Architecture.

His other professional and academic engagements include presenting his own architectural work in the ANGAN Lecture Series at BRAC University, Dhaka; delivering a lecture on Sufism at the Embassy of the United States, Dhaka; and serving as a main panel speaker at the ARCASIA Forum in Korea. He also presented on Bengali Modernism at Università IUAV di Venezia (IUAV), Venice, Italy.

More recently, he has continued to contribute to international and national academic discourse as a speaker at the Interior Design Education Forum 2022 in Taiwan, as a speaker at the Muzharul Islam Centenary organized by Bengal Institute in 2023, and as a speaker in the Exploring Muzharul Islam Lecture Series organized by Bengal Institute in 2024.
