The Department of Sociology was established in June, 2005 and the foundation of this department was the increasing demand for understanding the society and its intricate aspects in Bangladesh. The department argues that sociology is not just a field of study but is also a very important tool of understanding the dynamics of the society and solving the challenges of the community. The program aims to provide students with a chance to discover the realities of human interaction, acquire strong analytical and research skills, and gain experience to make significant contributions to society. The department intends to develop responsible, reflective professionals and active citizens by promoting diversity, inculcating open discussion and linking learning in the classroom to real world issues. Besides academic excellence, the Department of Sociology is determined to create a more inclusive and informed society by educating, conducting research, and engaging with communities.
